Bottega Veneta Spring 2012 Collection

Bottega Veneta is an Italian luxury goods house best known for its leather goods. Bottega Veneta was established in 1966 by Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro. The name Bottega Veneta means “Venetian atelier” and the company was begun to produce artisanal leather goods.

Bottega Veneta’s Spring 2012 collection focuses on the marriage of surfaces with technology to create an exuberant romp. “This season, we wanted to make clothes with a sense of freedom and high spirits,” explains Tomas Maier. Through the use of creative materials, unusual finishes anddramatic prints, the collection plays by no one’s rules and pushes the boundaries of experimentation.

The color spectrum ranges from blood-red, burnt orange to rich shades of tourmaline, epitomizing a collection that fully embraces a painter’s palette. Opposites attract, and the silhouette does this by combining architectural forms with fluid lines that keep close to the body.

The highlight of the collection is the extraordinary use of materials. Technology is used to create surfaces on fabrics that invite none other than a serious tactile rub down. A red gabardine number sees the bodice tiled with shiny squares, while a white leather apron dress shows panels of clear PVC overlays. The list includes ultra-matte silk, high-shine satin, and wool gabardine that’s been calendared to give the surface a delicate shine – materials that add substance and depth to each look.

Our favorite aspect is the freedom exuded by each look that came down the runway, be it in the silhouette or in the way it’s constructed. The result is a collection of unusual pieces that are beautifully made and above all, wearable on so many occasions.
