A Pamella Roland woman doesn’t follow the crowd. In fact, she stands on the side in her finest and jewelled gowns and simply watches the upcoming trends walk past. Channelling the American classic, Roland’s spring 2011 collection is a tribute to “abstract Expressionists painters that revolutionised the modern art world”.
At New York fashion week, just as every luminous gown stepped out on the runway and strategically placed itself around a wooden frame, the artist’s aesthetic became clearer, with the subsequent clarity of Roland’s inspiration. The models posed eloquently as muses to inspire the American artists creating a visual art on their canvas.
Red carpet’s darling designer belted out neutral tones with glimpses of ivory, lavender and melon. Strict silhouette with clean and sublime lines provided a blissful marriage betweenclassicism and modernity. Fishtail gowns, pleated dresses and embellished necklines overpowered the tension between leather and silk collaborations. But the varied hemlines and fabric cuts-outs in the collection surely took the award for being one for all ages.
